Job Overview:
Shopify is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Backend Software Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and managing the development of Shopify's backend systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to define and execute technical strategies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering, excellent communication and leadership skills, and a passion for building scalable and reliable systems.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and management of Shopify's backend systems, ensuring high-quality and scalable code
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, and front-end development, to define and execute technical strategies
- Develop and maintain best practices for software development, testing, and deployment
- Mentor and coach team members, providing technical guidance and support as needed
- Continuously evaluate and improve Shopify's backend systems, leveraging emerging trends and technologies as appropriate
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on backend development
- Strong knowledge of software development methodologies, tools, and best practices, with experience in agile and continuous delivery environments
- Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills
- Experience with backend technologies such as Ruby on Rails, Java, or Node.js
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
